Typhon and Severian

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Chris backpedals:
What I don't agree with is that there is a Herod-Typhon connection, and I=20
agree strongly with most of what you just said.

I also wouldn't go so far as to say there is a Herod-Satan connection; I=20
merely think that there are a couple of similarities which can lead to=20
mistaking a Typhon-Satan connection with a Typhon-Herod association, *if yo=
u=20
happen to be looking for it*. Herod, for example, is also a tempter -=20
whether he believes Jesus has the powers he claims or not, he tries to goad=20
Jesus into using his power (for unworthy ends?). It's not too off the wall=20
to see Herod as a somewhat satanic character, imho, but I don't know that=20
this is grounds to say that Herod is a representation or stand-in for Satan=20
as such.

In any event, this probably qualifies as over-analysis, because while the=20
Jesus/Satan parallel with Severian/Typhon is obvious, it is not *complete*.
