This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Alas, the real explanation was much more mundane and kind of dumb.
Back in February, my employer changed the format for eddresses (so
that mine, for example, went from "ddanehy at siebel.com" to
"Dan'l.Danehy-Oakes at Siebel.com"). Mail to the old eddress continued to
be delivered, so I could read Urth; but mail from the new eddress was
rejected as not coming from a listmember. The obvious solution --
unsubscribe and resubscribe -- wasn't possible because I couldn't send
an email from the old eddress to unsubscribe. I could have just resubbed
from the new eddress, or this one, but I didn't want to deal with two
copies of each message.

Well, Ranjit's fixed it and I'm a happy bug.
