This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Hey guys, I need some help.  I won a poetry contest and got a $50 gift
certificate to Barnes & Noble.  I bought Chapterhouse: Dune and ordered
a Radiohead CD.  (That information was irrelevant.)  The point is that I
still have $30 to spend on books, and I can't decide on what to buy.  I
want to find another author like Gene Wolfe; I want to buy a book no
one's ever heard of that is incredibly good.  So I'm coming to you.  I
know lots of Wolfe-like authors have been discussed on the list before.
Tell me what book I should buy.  (And by something like Wolfe I mean
something well-written, thought-provoking, brilliant, and relatively
clean.)  If anyone can steer me in the right direction, it's you.
