This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Normally I'd agree with you about ignoring all that stuff, but for the odd
detail that the Japanese Army had occupied the island during the Pacific
War.  I don't know if this tidbit made it to the audio or not.  Proably
coincidental, but there it is. (I don't know about the audio, but the text
is clear that hanga means shark.)

The big nearby settlement seems to be Kololahi, connected by telephone
wires but transport by boat.  The island is in the Takanga Group.  Nearest
leprosarium in the Marshalls.
