How would you rate Wolfe as a short story writer?

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Having read all of Wolfe's short stories, except for recent ones published=20
in odd and hard to find (expensive) books, I would say this: There are two=20
kinds. Wolfe has written some fluffy, often funny pieces, like "The=20
Headless Man." These are fun to read, but hardly "great." On the other=20
hand, there are some excellent stories of full literary quality, and I=20
think they are fully on a part with his longer work.
