Sev's not-so-perfect memory

mournings glory · 15 Jul 2003, 05:28 · from urth-v0307.mbox · original

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Wrote Nutria:

" Wolfe worked over the New Sun books FOUR times before initial=20
publication."

Does anyone know if any of these earlier drafts still exist and/or if Mr.=20
Wolfe has designated a final repository for his works yet? Knowing our luck=20
he's probably destroyed them, but just think what a close analysis of this=20
putative quartet might reveal.

Also, while I'm temporarily delurking, would like to recommend Wolfe's "Fro=
m=20
the Cradle," in the latest Year's Best Fantasy edited by David Hartwell.=20
It's the tale of another brown book, with three embedded stories a la PEACE=
,=20
and many of you will surely enjoy it.
