Stuff to read...

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Further than what? 8*)=20

You might check out the recent discussion of a "syllabus" for=20
an introductory BotNS class. There's been a lot of good stuff=20
mentioned there (and some real trash).=20

Hoom. Well, there are a few SF writers out there with literary=20
aspirations and executions as high as Wolfe, or nearly so: Dan=20
Simmons comes to mind, as does Samuel R. Delany. Ursula K. Le Guin=20
-- though she seems less likely to appeal to a Wolfe fan. Tim=20
Powers is not quite as good, but packs a lot of layers of meaning=20
into his work anyway.=20
=20
A few individual books I've read lately that I can recommend: Matt=20
Ruff's "Sewer, Gas, and Electric," which is almost impossible to=20
describe. A computerized ghost of Ayn Rand is a major character;=20
so is a giant flying shark. If that doesn't grab you, forget it,=20
the book's not for you. If it does -- the book is a major hoot.=20

Say: what ever happened to the idea of "Wolfe" and "Lupine"=20
lists...?=20
