Latin in Severian's Day

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. I don't think Latin is extant---I believe it was indicated in Shadow =3D
that Latin is employed as an indication of an ancient tongue, but was =3D
not that language in fact.

-I agree with the the symbolic idea of the Ship as the Church. Its very =3D
plain. I might point out, however, that the Whorl carries the same =3D
symbology, only its 'heavenly destination' is Blue/Green rather than =3D
Yesod.

-When Silk and the others saw the Whorl from outside, it simply appeared =

as a bright spot in the Sky. Tzadkiel's ship would appear the same, =3D
depending on its distance from Blue/Green.

Whorl, but there are a variety of Chems that are constructed differently =

don't see this indicated anywhere. Arguments about the date when the =3D
Whorl was launched and when Typhon reigned don't apply if the Whorl =3D
travels as fast as Tzadkiel's ship.

-The Chrasmologic Writings contain French and Latin because, A: Its a =3D
religious writing. B: It was written and the Whorl was launched far =3D
before Severian's time. Also, Latin is extant in Severian's day, along =3D
with Greek and Spanish.

-Chems wouldn't be found on Urth at all if they were invented on board =3D
the Ship. Reference Sidero's claims concerning this. Jonas was an =3D
exception, and he clearly came from the Ship rather than Urth.
