reckless speculation on Typhon and Quetzal

Chris · 04 Sep 2003, 22:32 · from urth-v0309.mbox · original

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

You said a mouthful. I just read "There Are Doors" and was playing around=20
tracking references to Attis/Dionysus/etc. looking for more keys that I=20
hadn't picked up. In the process I found lots of alternate stories of Attis=20
I hadn't known about, many of which contradict each other, and Wolfe appear=
s=20
to have been using ALL OF THEM, sometimes at the same time. His grasp of=20
myth continues to impress me.
