Who is the Long Sun?

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Hey guys. So parallelism has finally led the question "Who are the long an=
d=20
short suns, if Severian is the New sun?" to appear on the list. And strang=
ely=20
enough, we have an answer in the text of Calde of the Long Sun.

Auk is the Long Sun.

During the tunnel scene (I read it last week - it's just shy of halfway=20
through the book, but I don't have the book with me now) where Auk is down=20
there posessed and having hallucinations and he's looking for Dace, he star=
ts=20
thinking to himself and comes to the conclusion that, of course, he is the=20
long sun. I remember scratching my head at that one. Does that mean that =
the=20
god that possesses Auk controls the cooling and heating of the Sun, or does=
 it=20
mean that Auk himself is in some way a manifestation of the Long Sun, since=
 he=20
"doesn't have a father or mother" but mysteriously has a brother who is mor=
e=20
than happy to show up after his death.

Any thoughts on that?
