Questions about Book of the New Sun

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Hi all,

I have been working my way through this book and loving it, but I'm
starting to get confused.  I just started Sword and Citadel.

1.  I don't get the vision Severian had on the roof with the witches.
2.  Why does he leave Thrax?
3.  When is all of this stuff going to come together?
4.  How are we to tell that he lies during his narrative?  Why would
he do so?

Thanks.  I am loving the book, but it's even tougher to follow than
Hyperion.
