This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything
here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer
encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the
archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those
repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is
for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site,
so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Donaldson uses language to obscure and deflate everything--Wolfe seems to somehow make everything more complex and resonant, ecstatically precise. I admit that I couldn't really identify with Severian very much, but I was carried along by other things. Anything I read by Poul Anderson seems to be a pastiche of greatness, but never quite achieves greatness. Please send me examples of his "great" stuff. I probably missed it while I was plowing through one or another of his titles picked out at random. He has a lot of them! Richard
