Ice Cream Headache

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Dr. Gouvea,

I love Wolfe's short stories, but I confess that on those occassions
when I have read an entire collection through in a day or two, I tend
to get the kind of headache we normally associate with the result of
eating something very cold (like an Orange Julius drink, or a milk shake)
too fast. Personal weakness. So I have to limit myself on those
short stories, make the book last at least a week--they are just too
concentrated!
