Digest whorl.v012.n016

Redhaven1 · 09 Dec 2000, 05:08 · from whorl-v0012.mbox · original

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

As long as we're on the topic of Wolfe's bookcovers, I'd like to get in my=20
two (or three) cents. Firstly, I think the trade-paperback cover of Litany=20
of the Long Sun is the best looking book cover of them all. The book itsel=
f=20
is just lovely. . . perhaps my favorite cover of any of my books other tha=
n=20
Tolkien's, and those are not science-fiction. Secondly, what does anyone=20
think of the cover of the Science Fiction Book Club's omnibus New Sun=20
collection? I my opinion they do a terrible job of Severian and the=20
techo-apocolypic background looks out of place. (Besides that though, it's=
 a=20
great book. . . the only place I've ever seen all four books of the New Sun=20
together in one volume- and hardcover at that.) Finally, what about the=20
cover of Devil in a Forest? It's intriguing, but doesn't seem to have=20
anything to do with the book. =20
