This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

That's what I can happen when I post before my first cup of coffee has
kicked in. What I should have said is:

"The narrator occupies Silk's body, but the climactic revelation that Silk's
mind is still there with Horn's falls flat because we've known or at least
suspected so since the first volume."

or perhaps:

"From early on in volume one we've known that the physical body of the
narrator is Silk's. We've also known that Silk's personality is in that body
as well as Horn's. The final acknowledgement by the narrator that he is in
fact Silk falls flat, because _we've_ known or suspected it for a long
time."

As I said in an earlier post, we're watching Silk repair himself behind the
Horn 'front,' and when he's done, Horn isn't necessary to him anymore.
Seeing Silk recognize this is a poignant moment, and the best part of the
denouement, but we saw it coming all along, so the impact is less.
