This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Look. Whatever _tBotSS_ is (or the editors-written third-
person parts of it, or even "selected bits" of those), it=20
ain't fanfic. The term is specific, refers to the parasitic=20
creation of new stories in a _fictional_ world _created by=20
some other person or corporate entity_, on an amateur or=20
not-for-profit basis, and usually (but not always) quite=20
_bad_. The best-known, if not actually dominant, forms,=20
are the [erotic|pornographic] "slash" fiction* and the
MaryJane.

What makes the concept ludicrous is this: Who is the=20
fan writing the fanfic? Not Wolfe, certainly; he's the=20
creator of all this. Not the editorial kids; what comes=20
from them isn't fiction -- it's either reconstruction=20
or outright lies.

(Where did that one conversation come from? Maybe
Oreb? Naaaaah...)
