Spoiler on the connection between New Sun/Long Sun

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

The link is explicit, but like so many things in Wolfe's works, is
mentioned only once, and you have to make the connection yourself.=20

Somewhere in _Lake of the Long Sun_, one of the characters (Cypris, if I
recall correctly) mentions that before he entered Mainframe, Pas's name was
Typhon.=20

So it is clear that the _Whorl_ was built and launched by Typhon, the
two-headed tyrant autarch of long-ago, whom Severian meets in _Sword of the
Lictor_.=20

That's the only explicit connection between the two works that I've seen or
heard. Other links have been guessed at, but as nearly as I can tell, there
is no conclusive evidence about them.=20
