Wolfe News--from the Horse's Mouth

Patri10629 · 11 Jun 1999, 12:57 · from whorl-v0010.mbox · original

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

So, the next time you meet Wolfe, just if you feel like it, you could ask
him for me, does he think we're all out of our minds?

Dear William, et all,

Be glad to ask him. But I can hazard a guess: he is immensely flattered. At=20
dinner he mentioned how pleased he was with Mantis's work. (Sorry. Michael-=
-I=20
can't recall the exact words!) And we are, of course, all lower incarnation=
s=20
of the original probing mantis.=20

Hey, this is a man who spends his life trying to give pleasure to readers.=20
Imagine how gratifying it must be to be regarded and analyzed so seriously.=20
If we meant nothing to him he wouldn't be so proud of his tributes and=20
awards. You don't think all those puns, jokes and puzzles are for his priva=
te=20
gratification?=20

And, of course, he thinks wer'e out of our minds:)

best as always,

Patrick
