So Trivigante is a name for the Moon Goddess, eh? The
mystery of Trivigaunte in LONG SUN is solved at last.
A typically witty appropriation by Wolfe: in the
online Occultopedia, it's stated that Trivigante is
the original Italian form of Termagant; in the
Renaissance Morality Plays, Trivigante was an
overbearing, tyrannical character in flowing Eastern
robes, which apparel led to the assumption Trivigante
was female. So when Wolfe invented an Arabic-speaking
city state dominated by militaristic viragos,
Trivigaunte was a natural name to assign it...
