My guess: Ignacio got a big share of the loot from Lesage's hijacking of Burt's expedition. Further, he was actually in charge, with Lesage fronting for him.
I suppose that makes sense, because Ignacio needed to get his hands on Burt's buried treasure also. Is he really that greedy? What a bad dude.
