This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything
here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer
encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the
archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those
repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is
for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site,
so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

The author graciously took the time to speak with me via email about the genesis of his typically inventive new work, the state of 21st-century SF, and many other subjects. An edited transcript of our conversation follows, below. ? Paul Di Filippo* For any other out-of-it sap like me, who didn't know what 'the Singularity' was that Di Filippo asked Wolfe about, here's a very helpful article I found (summary: it's 'the Rapture for nerds'): http://io9.com/5534848/what-is-the-singularity-and-will-you-live-to-see-it Knowing what it is makes Wolfe's answer all the more fascinating and tantalising... -DOJP On Sun, Dec 29, 2013 at 4:48 PM, Gwern Branwen <gwern at gwern.net> wrote: > > http://io9.com/dont-expect-to-figure-out-gene-wolfes-new-novel-the-f-1484516074 > (review) > > > http://www.bendbulletin.com/home/1591917-151/the-strange-lands-of-sci-fi-master-gene-wolfe > (review) > > http://thebookofsilk.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html (character list) > > http://jdbookreview.com/gene-wolfe-no-comparison/ interview: > > > Whether you subscribe to the theory that Wolfe is some kind of > hothouse-cultivated Ent, or ?merely? a human genius, you?ll want to read > his new novel _The Land Across_.
