This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Gene Wolfe holds the same hypothesis. Once upon a time, moments
before I first joined this list back in '97, Gene Wolfe answered
a passel of questions from this list in a sort of informal
email interview. The entire article, "Train from Wolfeland,"
was posted by Mantis and can be found in the archives at

the relevant question and answer are quite short:

As for the Outisder thinking "well" of Pike, well, if we=3D20
