CONFLUENCE

In his review of Paul J. McAuley's CONFLUENCE series, just posted on SF WEEKLY, John Clute does a systematic comparison of the trilogy with THE BOOKS by Wolfe. I agree with Clute's analysis; but McAuley himself downplays the homage element. In any event, I strongly recommend CONFLUENCE to everyone; SHRINE OF STARS, the final volume, is very like a redemptive parody of THE URTH OF THE NEW SUN. =====
