Shields of Mars
I read GW's new short story, "Shields of Mars" (in the
June 2002 MARS PROBES anthology from DAW) last night.
A straight Hard SF tale about engineers tending a
nuclear reactor on Mars, but with a wonderful
transformative twist at the end. Very shrewd stuff
(and the rest of the anthology, I should add, is
pretty good too--Aldiss, McAuley, O'Leary, Baxter,
Moorcock, McDonald...).
Best,
Nick.
